Frequently Asked Questions
Will ratings from students in the New Classroom impact my overall rating?
Currently, ratings from students in the New Classroom will not impact tutors’ overall rating. We will inform tutors when this changes.
I have thoughts to share about the New Classroom. How do I let Cambly know?
Our New Classroom team is eager to learn from you! Please write into Tutor Support letting them know your experience with the Cambly Classroom. As a reminder on how to do that, please see this help center article.
When exactly is the lesson recorded in the New Classroom?
The lesson is recorded from the first time the student enters the classroom with the tutor until the lesson is complete – even during the time between when a student may leave and return to the classroom within the duration of a lesson. Please be sure to click the End Lesson button to confirm the classroom is closed and the lesson ends.
As always, the red dot next to your tutor name is present when your video is being recorded.
📝 Please note: if the student leaves the new classroom for a few minutes and reconnects, the tutor is recorded during the time in between, as that is still considered part of the lesson. Tutors will still see the red dot during this time, indicating the lesson is being recorded.
Why am I not paid if I extend my lesson before or after the requested time?
As part of the new Cambly Classroom, we want tutors to only be responsible for tutoring within the boundaries of their requested lesson, whether on demand or reserved. Out of respect for your time (and your upcoming students’ time!), we don’t want any student hiccups that affect the duration of the call (tardiness, connectivity issues, etc.) to impact you and your schedule!
This means, if you have a reservation from 1-1:30, you are only expected to be there at those times, regardless of student tardiness or connectivity issues. For on demand, if a student calls with a 15 minute lesson, that lesson begins when you and the student first connect, and does not pause simply because the student has tech issues or leaves the classroom for other reasons.
The hope is that this change allows you to have more autonomy over your schedule, while also paving the way toward a classroom that supports upcoming improvements, such as scheduling, connecting with students, pay, and more!
What happens if I press end lesson before the lesson time is finished? Can I re-enter the classroom?
Clicking End Lesson permanently ends the lesson for both the tutor and student. Tutors are unable to reenter the classroom. Please be sure to only click this button if the lesson is over and complete. If you are having technical issues and want to leave mid lesson, if you plan to return to the lesson, be sure not to click End Lesson. Rather, exit out of the browser by closing the tab or the window. This way, you will be able to return to your current lesson when you sign back on to Cambly.
Will the New Classroom be available for Cambly Kids?
Not Yet! We will inform Cambly Kids tutors when this change extends to them.
