Whether you're excited to jump into your first call, or a little bit nervous, this video will guide you through everything you need to know to get started.
Now that you're familiar with our classroom and how to answer calls, let's talk about tutoring! Follow these three tips to help ensure a great experience for you and your students.
Be Kind
Cambly students come from many different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. They’re reaching out for help which can be a scary thing to do— and in a foreign language no less (double scary)! Imagine all the qualities you would look for in a teacher (kind, patient, encouraging) and try to emulate them.
Ask Questions
Questions are a great tutoring strategy for a bunch of reasons; they help you learn more about your student and their culture, they keep the conversation flowing, and they allow your student to practice their spoken English. Keep your students talking by asking questions, questions, and more questions.
Give Corrections
The number one complaint we hear from students is that they aren’t receiving enough corrections. Don’t be afraid to offer corrections, suggest a more natural way to phrase something, or teach a new vocabulary word! Don't want to interrupt your student? Try typing your corrections in the chat box so they can review them later.
