This was often a useful question as students have diverse goals and preferred methodologies and if they were used to Cambly, they often knew that the lesson content was generally expected to be decided by the student.
From sessions to structured journeys
However, on Pro students sign up for a structured learning experience with an expert! Gym goers with a personal trainer don’t design their own workouts, people without degrees in architecture don’t design their own homes, they do these things with an expert.
While some students may show a high degree of learner autonomy, a lot of students sign up for Pro precisely because they need the help of an expert! They may have tried different approaches independently such as self-study in grammar and reading, practicing a little with AI, or watching Youtube videos in English, but it hasn’t enabled them to achieve their goals. They need you!
Taking the initiative as a Pro tutor
As a Pro tutor, confidence in giving guidance and being the cornerstone in designing successful language journeys in collaboration with your students is key. If a student seems to have no idea how they want the session to be conducted or if a student’s level is too low to engage in any kind of collaborative discussion, Pro tutors should have a variety of methodologies and practices that they can offer without waiting to hear what the student wants to do.
