How much does Cambly pay?
Tutors are paid $0.17 USD per minute of lesson time on Cambly ($10.20/hour) and $0.20 USD per minute of lesson time on Cambly Kids ($12/hour).
There are often opportunities to earn more! To learn more about these opportunities, visit the Tutor Programs & Extra Earning Opportunities section.
When does Cambly pay?
Cambly processes tutor payments every Tuesday (UTC) for the previous payment period. Each payment period is a 7-day period that runs from Tuesday through Monday UTC (23:59:59). For lessons that start within the payment period but end after the payment period has closed, we pay for the lesson in full in the payment period in which the lesson was started.
It's Tuesday, why haven't I received my pay?
While Cambly processes payments on Tuesdays, receiving your pay will depend on the payment method you've chosen. Some payment methods may take longer to process. You can find more details on the processing times in Cambly's Payment Options. Additionally, you can visit Common Pay Issues to see if one of these might be the reason you haven't received your pay.
Types of payments
Payment in the classroom
Your payment for each lesson is a combination of the time you spend waiting for the student to arrive, the time you spend chatting with the student, and the time you spend waiting for a disconnected student to reconnect to the classroom. Some of these scenarios may not apply to every lesson. More details on each type of payment are below:
1. Chat minutes
Tutors are paid for all of the time that they chat with their student during a lesson. You will see a pop-up any time you’re alone in the classroom, which provides guidance on what to do and when you’re earning pay. Your chat minutes (with late student minutes and/or disconnection minutes) will appear as one total on your Pay History page.
2. Late student pay
You are paid to wait for 10 minutes after the scheduled start time of a lesson. If your reserved student doesn't show up by 10 minutes past the lesson start time, you will automatically be paid for the time you waited. Late student minutes will appear as part of the lesson total on your Pay History page.
3. Disconnection pay
If your student disconnects before the lesson is supposed to end, you will continue to be paid. Disconnection pay is capped at 5 minutes per lesson, so if you’ve already waited for 5 minutes and your student has not returned, feel free to end the lesson. Disconnection minutes will appear as part of the lesson total on your Pay History page.
Payment outside of the classroom
There are a few scenarios in which tutors will receive other types of payments outside of a lesson. You can read more details on these different types of payments below:
1. Late cancellation pay
If you are tutoring adults on Cambly and the student cancels 8 hours or less before the start time of the scheduled reservation, Cambly will add a $2 payment to your account. If you are tutoring kids on Cambly Kids and the student cancels 12 hours or less before the start time of the scheduled reservation, Cambly will add a $2 payment to your account. You can view this payment on your Pay History page.
2. Extra earnings
There are a variety of extra earning opportunities offered to tutors, that will appear as a separate payment in your pay history page. To learn more about these opportunities, visit the Tutor Programs & Extra Earning Opportunities section.
3. Miscellaneous credits
Any other miscellaneous that Cambly may pay to a tutor for a particular reason will be seen as a miscellaneous credit on the Pay History page.
Pay frequency and minimum balance
Cambly offers tutors different options for how often they would like to be paid! We know that tutors are located in all different areas of the world and may have to deal with transfer and/or FX fees, which is why we like to offer more flexibility.
How can I select my payment frequency?
Tutors can choose to be paid every 1 week, every 2 weeks, or every 4 weeks, regardless of your payment method selection.
This can help reduce how often you pay processing fees, and, if you convert USD into another currency, this option can also help reduce how often you pay conversion fees!
In order to change your payment frequency, follow these 3 steps:
1. Log into your tutor account and go to your account settings. There, you will see the payment period option.
2. Click edit below the "Platform option".
3. Select 1, 2 or 4 weeks depending on your preference and click "Save".
Cambly only pays out balances with a net total of $20, which means that after processing fees are deducted, your payment must be over $20. If you have less than a $20 net balance in your account when payments are processed, it will remain there until your accrued payments meet this threshold.
You can check your "Account Balance" to see your current balance. If we make any adjustments to your past week's chat minutes, then these changes will be reflected in the following pay cycle.
We deliver your earnings to the payment method account you have on file. You can check or change your payment method (and frequency!) on the Account page here.

FAQs:
What if I tutor a lesson at the cut-off time?
If you tutor a lesson during the middle of the cut-off time, you will see the total from that lesson in your balance. Once Cambly processes the payment, what you earned after the cut-off time will remain in your balance while the rest is processed.
