Where can I see/change my payment options?
On www.cambly.com/en/tutor/profile/account, under “Payments”, you will see “Platform”. To get started with a new payment option, please follow the steps below:
- Click the ‘Edit’ button to change your payment platform.
- In the Platform dropdown menu, you will see ‘Other Payment Methods’ as an option.
- Once selected, you'll be asked to input your information and select a payment option.
- Next, you'll be asked to submit information for taxes.
- After you've answered all the questions, you'll see a confirmation message.
- Click the ‘Done’ button below the confirmation message to save.
What are my different payment options?
Cambly recently added additional payment options for tutors to receive payments. With these additional options, we hope tutors will receive more of their money earned with Cambly (e.g. lower exchange fees and/or better currency conversion rates). Here are the following payment options offered:
- PayPal
- U.S. ACH (Direct Deposit)
- Global ACH (eCheck)
- Wire
- Prepaid debit card
Below you can find more information for each payment option to help decide which one is best for you. *Please note: the answers to ‘Is this the best option for me?’ are simply suggestions and can alter for different tutors in different situations & locations.
Payment Frequency
Cambly now offers tutors different options for how often they would like to be paid! We know that tutors are located in all different areas of the world and may have to deal with transfer fees, which is why we like to offer more flexibility.
Tutors can choose to be paid every 1 week, every 2 weeks, or every 4 weeks, regardless of your payment method selection.
This can help reduce how often you pay processing fees, and, if you convert USD into another currency, this option can also help reduce how often you pay conversion fees!
In order to change your payment frequency, follow these 3 Easy steps:
- Navigate to the Payments section of your tutor profile page. There, you will see the Payment Period option.
-
Click EDIT below the Platform option
- Select your preferred payment frequency
- Scroll down below the platform option and select DONE. Please note: the done button may be in different locations based on your platform selection. You must click this done button for your payment frequency options to be saved.
Pro Tip: for an extra level of assurance that your Payment Period selection has been saved. Navigate out of, and then back into, your payments section to confirm the desired selection is still displayed.
PayPal
What is this?
This is the standard way Cambly has always paid its tutors, directly through PayPal. This option is still available to all tutors.
Is this the best option for me?
This is likely the best option for tutors with U.S. PayPal accounts and/or tutors who don’t want to change the way they’ve always been paid.
What do I need to do?
Just make sure “PayPal” is selected and the email address linked to your PayPal account is entered. That's it!
PayPal via "Other Payment Methods"
What is this?
This is another way of getting paid into your PayPal account (through Tipalti). This option is available to many tutors, but is location-specific.
Is this the best option for me?
This is likely the best option for tutors with non-USD PayPal accounts who otherwise would exchange USD into another currency on PayPal. Similar to the original PayPal option, it is likely a good option for tutors with USD PayPal accounts.
What do I need to do?
Select “Other Payment Methods” and complete the 4 pages selecting “PayPal” on page 2.
*Please Note: Please ensure that you enter your correct Paypal account email address when registering with Tipalti.
Global ACH (eCheck)

What is this?
This is another way of receiving money into a bank account (excluding PayPal altogether). This option is available to many tutors, but is location-specific.
Is this the best option for me?
This is likely the best option for non-U.S. tutors who want to, or have to, avoid PayPal. Charges can be $5 a week, so this option will be better for full-time tutors and/or tutors wanting to avoid uncompetitive exchange rates & fees on PayPal.
*Please Note: decreasing payment frequency (every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks) will reduce your overall processing fees. For example, instead of paying the $5 fee every Tuesday, you will only pay that fee every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks, depending on your payment frequency selection.
What do I need to do?
Select “Other Payment Methods” and complete the 4 pages selecting “eCheck/Local bank transfer” on page 2.
*Please Note: When providing bank account details, please be very careful and be sure to double check the account number and to only provide the full legal name of your bank to avoid payment delays.
U.S. ACH (Direct Deposit)
What is this?
This is another way of receiving money into a U.S. bank account (excluding PayPal altogether). *Please Note: This option is available only to tutors requesting to be paid in USD.
Is this the best option for me?
This option could be best for both U.S. and non-U.S. tutors depending on the type of account you would like to be paid into.
This is likely the best option for U.S. tutors wishing to avoid PayPal (and willing to pay $0.25 each time to do so).
This is likely the best option for non-U.S. tutors if you wish to be paid into a virtual wallet, such as Wise or Payoneer, and into the USD account of that virtual wallet. See the Wise section below for more details on this process.
Select “Other Payment Methods” and complete the 4 pages selecting “ACH” on page 2.
*Please Note: When providing bank account details, please be very careful and be sure to double check the account number and to only provide the full legal name of your bank to avoid payment delays.
*Please Note: If you are not in the U.S. but wish to be paid in USD, please click "Select to be paid in a different country than above" after inputting your non-U.S. information on the first page of the sign up.
Wise
Wise accounts can work depending on the tutor's location and the Wise account's currency. If a tutor wishes to add a Wise account, they are welcome to try to see if their combination is accepted.
🇺🇸 For U.S.-based tutors, it should be as simple as entering your USD Wise account’s details.
Please see the note in step 4 below about selecting the correct bank name. The video below may also be useful for U.S. tutors, though not everything will apply.
🌎 For non-U.S. based tutors, please refer to this Tutor Tech Tips Tutorial YouTube video or follow along with the 6 easy steps below.
Connecting a Wise account in 6 Easy Steps
*Note: all of the steps and photos are taken from the YouTube video. Please consult the video for a more detailed explanation.
1. In your Payments section of your Tutor Accounts page, click Edit to choose “Other Payment Methods” as your Platform.
2. After entering your information on page 1, click “Select to be paid in a different country than the above”
3. Because Cambly pays in USD, choose United States as your payment country
4. On page 2, you can select “Direct Deposit / ACH” and enter your Wise USD account’s details
⚠NOTE: Don’t think you have a USD Wise account? There’s a pretty good chance you do! Log in to your Wise account and select “Manage” on the left hand menu:
Then click Account details.
Scroll down through the “Get more account details” section until you find US dollar
⚠Note: under “bank name”, please be sure to enter the correct details following the advice from the Wise Help Center article. The below snapshot from this Wise article explains where to find you bank name and address.
5. On page 3, complete your tax information.
6. When you see the following "Done" page, you’re all set!
Wire Transfer
What is this?
This is another way of receiving money into a bank account. This option is available to many tutors, but is location-specific.
Is this the best option for me?
This is likely the best option for U.S. or non-U.S. tutors who want to, or have to, avoid PayPal and ACH options. Charges can be $15 (U.S. resident), $20 (non-U.S. resident paid in non-USD), or $26 (non-U.S. resident paid in USD) per transfer, so this option will be better for full-time tutors and/or tutors wanting to avoid uncompetitive exchange rates & fees on PayPal. It will also benefit tutors who are able to select a less frequent payment option (details in Payment Frequency section above)
What do I need to do?
Select “Other Payment Methods” and complete the pages after selecting “Wire” on page 2.
*Please Note: When providing bank account details, please be very careful and be sure to double check the account number and to only provide the full legal name of your bank to avoid payment delays.
Prepaid Debit Card
What is this?
Our prepaid debit card is powered by Tipalti Intercash. It is a MasterCard that can be used online, offline, and at an ATM for immediate purchases and cash withdrawals.
The prepaid card is similar to a typical debit card, but it is not tied to any bank accounts. There is no commitment to setting up an account with a financial institution. It can be used in 192 countries across the world, including countries in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
Additional Benefits:
- Instant approval upon application
- Access to funds 24/7 (in-store or online) and ATM anywhere Mastercard is accepted
- Built-in overspend prevention—only spend the card balance and no more, and no overdraft fee
Is this the best option for me?
This is likely the best option for U.S. or non-U.S. tutors who have limited or no access to traditional or virtual banking. It also could be a good option for tutors in countries and regions with limited financial infrastructure.
What do I need to do?
Select “Other Payment Methods” and complete the pages after selecting “Prepaid Debit Card” on page 2.
Upon completion of the sign up process through your Cambly account, you will instantly receive a virtual card via email directly from Intercash. At that point, no cash is available for spending. Cash will be loaded onto the card with the next payment cycle. Tutors can manage their card through the Intercash “Cardportal” online banking system. *Please Note: A link to the Cardportal and log-in instructions are provided by Intercash as part of the Virtual card email mentioned above.

BASIC (USD): FULL (USD):
What types of cards does this prepaid debit card option support?
Two types of cards are supported: Virtual cards and Plastic cards. The Virtual card has 16 digits, an expiration date, and a CVV, just like a typical debit card, but it is limited to internet purchases only. The cardholder can’t “swipe” this card at a store. The Plastic card looks exactly like a regular credit card and is MasterCard branded.
How do I apply for a card?
After tutors choose "Other Payment Methods" as the platform in the Payments section of their tutor profile, tutors can then choose Prepaid Debit Card as their payment method.
Once selected, you will be prompted to enter the necessary information. Upon completion of the sign up process, you will instantly receive a Virtual card via email directly from Intercash. At that point, no cash is available for spending. Cash will be loaded into the card with the next Cambly payment cycle. A link to the Cardportal and log-in instructions are provided by Intercash as part of the Virtual card email mentioned above.
How do I upgrade to a plastic card?
Tutors can upgrade to a Plastic card via the CardPortal. To receive a plastic card, the cardholder will be prompted to provide additional identifying information such as a photo of their national ID card or passport. Once requested, the plastic card will be delivered to the cardholder within 8-15 business days via mail. The Plastic card can be used anywhere the MasterCard logo is shown.
How many countries are supported?
This option is currently available in 192 countries including in Latin America and Southeast Asia. See the detailed list of countries here(under the INTERCASH column).
Payment Fee Comparison Tables
Cambly tries to be as transparent as possible about all fees tutors may incur with different payment options. With this in mind, we created some payment fee comparison tables. Please select the dropdown option for your country to see the table.
Each payment option is shown with an example of what your total take home amount would be given a $100 payment.
Please Note: Payments are processed on Tuesdays and sent in USD. Therefore, if your bank account is a currency other than USD, you may be subject to exchange fees (aka conversion fees or FX fees). Both processing fees and conversion fees are reflected in the tables below.
A note about Wise/Virtual Wallets: Many non-U.S. tutors who do not bank with/do not use USD still opt to use a virtual wallet to be paid in USD. Then, they convert it to their currency within their virtual wallet accounts because in many cases, virtual wallet exchange rates are very competitive. Please visit the Wise section of this help center article and/or watch this video to learn more about how to connect your USD Wise account (or other virtual wallet) prior to converting the money to your non-USD currency.
⚠NOTE: Don’t think your non-USD Wise account has a USD account included? There’s a pretty good chance you do! Visit the Wise section of this help center article and/or watch this video to learn more.
Don't see your country? Most of the fees seen below are U.S. vs. non-U.S., so you should be able to build your own table! The fee that varies is the Wise FX fee. To figure out what the fee would be to convert from your USD Wise account to your currency's account, visit this Wise fees calculator.

FAQs
When will I be paid?
Payments are processed on Tuesdays. The pay period will end at EOD Mondays UTC (23:59:59), so tutors will be paid for the previous full 7 days. Pay processed on Tuesday will be for the previous week’s Tuesday 00:00:00 UTC through Monday 23:59:59 UTC.
*Please note: Changing your payment method may change the time it takes to see your money arrive after processing. See the charts above for more info based on your country and selected payment method.
Is there a minimum balance in order for payments to be processed?
Cambly only pays out balances with a net total of $20, which means that after processing fees are deducted, your payment must be over $20. If you have less than a $20 net balance in your account when payments are processed, it will remain there and be paid on your next payment cycle after meeting this threshold.
Do I need to switch, or can I keep getting paid via Paypal?
If you're happy with the original method of receiving payment via PayPal, there's no need to worry! The current system will remain active and zero action is required on your part to continue receiving your pay.
What payment system does Cambly use when tutors select "Other Payment Methods" on their accounts?
Cambly has officially partnered with the world's leading global payment system, Tipalti, to bring you additional methods of receiving payment. Selecting “Other Payment Methods”, means you will then be paid through our payment processor, Tipalti.
Do I need to create an account through Tipalti?
No, not at all. Simply select "Other Payment Methods" in your account settings and follow the on-screen instructions.
If I choose "Other Payment Methods" will I still receive my pay weekly on Tuesdays?
Selecting “Other Payment Methods” may mean you receive payments a few days later.
Payments are typically processed on Tuesdays. Typically, you will receive U.S. payments (Direct Deposit / ACH / Paypal) within 1 day of processing and non-U.S. payments (eCheck / Local Bank Transfer / SEPA Transfer / Paypal) within 3 days of processing.
*Please Note: If there is a U.S. Bank Holiday and/or a bank holiday in your local bank’s country, you will experience delays in the above processing time.
Why does Tipalti need all of this information?
Tipalti collects only the information that it needs to ensure you receive your payments and that you are prepared to process your taxes when the time comes. One of the reasons we've chosen Tipalti as a service provider is because of their data security and privacy policy which you can learn more about here.
What are the bank transfer fees associated with Tipalti?
If your bank is located in the U.S., the following fees will apply:
Payment Method | Transaction Fee |
ACH / Direct Deposit |
USD 0.25 |
PayPal |
no fees* |
If your bank is located outside the U.S., the following fees will apply:
Payment Method** | Transaction Fee |
eCheck / Local Bank Transfer / SEPA Transfer |
USD 5.00* |
PayPal | No fees* |
**Please also note: Depending on the country that your bank is located, you may see different options and slightly different fees. Once you select your payment method, there will be a small message that specifies the options that are available in your country and their exact fees.
Why don't I see more payment options available to me through "Other Payment Options"?
At the moment, the options provided by our payment processor in some countries are limited. If you have selected "other payment methods" but only see one payment method, this means that is the only option available in your country at this stage.
What does "bank transfer" mean?
It can mean options such as “ACH / Direct Deposit” for U.S. payments and “eCheck / Local Bank Transfer / ACH / SEPA” for non-U.S. payments.
