Overview
The student interest notifications feature provides you the opportunity to connect with Cambly students. Student interest notifications appear when a student has shown interest in you, enabling you to initiate a conversation with them or propose a lesson.
Student interest notifications
Think of these like a little heads-up from us. When a student on Cambly shows interest in your profile, you'll receive a Student Interest Notification. This is your chance to reach out! These notifications pop up when a student has:
- Viewed your profile: They've checked out what you have to offer.
- Added you to their favorites: You've made a great impression!
- Watched your intro video: They like your style.
How Can They Help You?
This feature gives you the power to take the initiative and connect with students who are already interested. Here's what you can do when you get a notification:
- Initiate a Conversation: Send a friendly message! You can introduce yourself, ask about their learning goals, or simply say hello. It's a great way to start building a rapport.
- Propose a Lesson: If you see a student who seems like a perfect fit, you can directly propose a lesson. This is a quick and easy way to get a session booked!
Why We Encourage You to Use Them
While using Student Interest Notifications isn't required, we believe it can be a game-changer for your tutoring experience on Cambly. By actively engaging with interested students, you can:
- Boost your booking rates: More connections often lead to more lessons!
- Build your student base: Find new regular students who love learning with you.
- Enhance your Cambly experience: It's rewarding to connect with students who are genuinely excited to learn from you.
From the notification, you have the ability to message the student if you’d like to initiate the conversation or propose a lesson. New notifications will appear with a red dot next to them. From the drop-down, you can scroll through previous notifications.
Taking action
You can use these notifications to proactively start the conversation with students by clicking on “message student” directly from the notification. Initiating the conversation gives you the opportunity to connect and book lessons with potential students.

When a student experiences a great lesson with you Receiving this notification means that the student really enjoyed their lesson with you. You can send them a message to let them know that you enjoyed your lesson as well and that you would like to have another lesson with them. You can share feedback from the previous lesson or an idea of what to work on for the next lesson. You can use the “share schedule” button to paste your unique calendar link or propose a future lesson. |

When a student saves your profile If a student saves your profile, it typically means they are excited to have a lesson with you. You can message the student to let them know you are too. Feel free to personalize the message based on insight from the student's profile, such as interests you share or ways you can help them achieve their learning goals. You can also use the “share schedule” button to paste your unique calendar link to help the student easily book a lesson with you. |
|
When a student started the process of booking a lesson with you You will be notified if a student shows interest in booking with you, but hasn't followed through yet. Some students are new to Cambly and may be nervous, or they may not have found a time in your schedule that suits them. Sending the student a friendly message could help break the ice and show the student that you're open to having a lesson with them. You can ask the student if there is a particular time that works for them or let them know when you will add availability to your schedule. |

When a student adds you to their Learning Team After you’ve met with a student, they can add you to their Learning Team. This indicates that you are one of the tutors the student enjoys working with most, and they plan to continue working with you. You can send them a message to let them know you are looking forward to continuing their English-learning journey together. Similar to when a student has a great lesson with you, you can share feedback from the previous lesson or suggest ideas for the next one.
Please note: Cambly is in the early phase of exploring and introducing student Learning Teams. If you are interested in learning more about how students can interact with their learning team, check out the Learning Team article in the student help center. |
Platform Participation Requirements and Best Practices
Student interest notifications are intended for tutors to use to connect with potential students on the Cambly platform. Please keep in mind that all of Cambly's Platform Participation Requirements and Best Practices still apply when using this feature.
FAQs
Am I able to start the conversation with Cambly Kids students?
Tutors are not currently able to start the conversation with Cambly Kids students. Both student interest notifications and recommended learners lists will not include Cambly Kids subscribers. We will let you know when that changes!
Why am I not receiving notifications from all students?
Cambly continues to explore ways to help provide tutors with opportunities to connect with potential new Cambly students. Currently, not all students have access to these features. Because of this, you won't receive student interest notifications from all students. For example, if you don't receive a “great lesson” notification from a student, that doesn't mean the student didn't have a great lesson with you!
What if a student does not want to be included in student interest notifications?
Students have the option to opt out of this feature. If a student asks you how to opt out, you can let them know they can change this setting by going to the "Lesson booking help" setting on their account settings page.
