1. Will Cambly Pro lessons affect my tutor rating?
Ratings are collected after each lesson, but these ratings do not currently count towards your Cambly rating.
2. What if my Cambly Pro student wants "free talk"? Will I be penalized for not having structured lessons with feedback, etc.?
No, you won't be penalized! The goal is to align with your student's expectations for each lesson. If the student prefers a more casual "free talk" session, that's totally fine—just make sure that you're still providing value by including feedback, offering self-study recommendations, and addressing their learning goals. The key is to meet the student where they are while still incorporating structured elements like feedback and recommendations where possible. It's all about adapting to your student's needs while maintaining the integrity of the Cambly Pro experience!

3. What if I learn during the Kickoff Conversation that my student's goals don't match my expertise or teaching style?
If a student's goals don't align with your expertise or approach, let them know what you do best and how you typically run lessons. If their needs would be better met by another tutor, it's okay to suggest they find someone who specializes in their area of interest. Setting clear expectations from the start helps ensure a positive experience for both you and the student.
💡 Pro Tip: If a student's goals don't align with your expertise, politely explain your teaching style and suggest they find a tutor specializing in their needs. If you realize this early, you can end the lesson and direct the student to request a refund, but be aware that tutors who do this often may be flagged for review.
4. Can I still tutor on regular Cambly if I join Cambly Pro?
Of course! In fact, most of your lessons will continue to be with regular Cambly students until you are able to build up a good base of Pro students.
5. Can I set my visibility or availability to Cambly Pro only?
Yes! When setting your availability, you can choose to open time slots to Pro students only, your regulars only, or a combination. Pro students can also book during any Priority Hours you've claimed. Learn more about setting your Pro availability here.
6. I have regulars that would benefit from Cambly Pro. Can I invite them to Cambly Pro?
Absolutely! If any of your students are interested, simply share this link to the Pro sign up page with them: Introducing Cambly Pro
Please be careful when mentioning Pro to existing students so that they don't feel pressured into switching to Pro. Pro is a more expensive option and students shouldn't feel obligated to switch. They are welcome to continue with their current subscriptions on Cambly.
7. Can beginner students use Pro?
Yes, they can! Pro can be a perfect fit for beginners as they may not be ready for full conversations and may especially benefit from structure and feedback early in their language learning journey. Remember to highlight the levels you teach in the Preferred Levels section of your profile as shown below as this upfront clarity helps ensure a positive experience for both of you.
8. What should I do if a child appears in a Pro lesson?
While tutors are advised against directly asking students for their age, if a child or teen appears in a Pro or trial lesson, you can politely explain that Pro is designed for adult-level learning goals and content and their minutes will be returned. You can then end the session and use the Report button to inform Cambly Support.
9. What do I do if I no longer want to participate in the Cambly Pro Program?
You can opt out of Cambly Pro at any time without penalty or change to your regular Cambly status. However, please be aware that once you leave, rejoining at a future date is not guaranteed. If you wish to opt out, simply write to Tutor Support and we will assist you.
10. As a Pro tutor, which students do I have access to?
When new adult learners are looking for a private, 1-on-1 plan on Cambly, they'll now choose between two options: Cambly Private+ (formerly known to tutors as Cambly Classic) or Cambly Pro.
- If they subscribe to Cambly Pro, they can book sessions with any Cambly or Cambly Pro tutor.
- If they subscribe to Cambly Private+ (the standard plan, formerly known to tutors as Cambly Classic), they'll be able to book Cambly tutors—but not Pro tutors.
Because you're a Cambly Pro tutor, new-to-Cambly students who choose the standard Cambly plan won't be able to book with you. But existing Cambly students on a standard plan prior to the launch of Pro will still have full access to you.
Pro tutors can continue working with their Regular students on Cambly Private+ (formerly known to tutors as Cambly Classic) even after they renew their subscription.
Regardless of whether your Regulars choose to renew their current Cambly Private+ (formerly known to tutors as Cambly Classic) plan or upgrade to Pro, please rest assured that they can continue to book sessions with you as long as they are marked as your Regular. We understand how important it is for Pro tutors to maintain the incredibly valuable, close relationships you've developed with your students!
💡 Pro Tip: To continue working with Cambly Private+ (formerly known to tutors as Cambly Classic) students after renewal, remember to mark them now as 'Regular.'
To make it easier for you to understand which students can book with you and the pay rate for each type of student, please see the chart below:
While new Private+ subscribers generally aren't able to book with Pro tutors, there's an exception for corporate accounts. When a company purchases Cambly subscriptions for their employees, those Private+ students may be able to book lessons with you, even if they're new to the platform.
