What if I don’t want to teach a curriculum-based lesson?
We totally understand that not all tutors prefer teaching curriculum-based lessons. If you ever feel uncomfortable working with a student, whether it is teaching a curriculum-based course or something else, you can always respectfully decline to work with the student and suggest for the student to look for another tutor that could be a better fit. Students will appreciate your honesty!
Can I add my own slides to Cambly Course lessons?
While you can't add your own lessons to the Cambly library, you are always welcome to use and share any of your own lesson content with your students by simply sharing your screen. Learn more about screen sharing here. Tutors also have the ability to add saved links to their library for convenience! See this article for more details.
Can I review Cambly Courses and lesson plans beforehand? Are sample lessons from each level available?
Yes, from the tutor website, navigate to the Library tab. You can explore all Cambly Courses as well as preview the lesson slides for each lesson.
What happens if my student and I don’t finish a Cambly Course lesson?
No worries! After you and the student hang up, the student will be asked whether or not the lesson is completed. The student can select “no” and be presented with the same lesson next time the student calls a tutor.
Can anyone teach the IELTS Cambly Courses or other professional courses?
Each course and its lessons are designed so that any tutor and student can pick up and go without any preparation or background knowledge. Courses that focus on specific exams (such as IELTS) include a review of the exam structure and grading criteria at the beginning of every lesson to help anyone not familiar. Cambly’s exam prep courses will never ask you to predict a student’s score, although it is not uncommon for a student to ask you to score them. If that happens, feel free to let the student know you do not feel comfortable giving a numeric score, but can instead provide actionable, qualitative feedback about their strengths and weaknesses.
What if I don’t speak North American English? Can I still teach Cambly Course?
That's fine, as in any lesson, feel free to teach your students how you'd say something differently in your dialect of English. Students can always see where your accent is from before they call, so they'll appreciate the information!
How do I report an error in one of the lessons in a Cambly course?
If you find an error in one of the lessons, please message our tutor support team! We appreciate your help as we continue to improve Cambly Courses.
What if my student is enrolled in a Cambly Course that is not at their English level?
Make sure to check with your student whether they have chosen their current course for a specific reason – perhaps they want to stay in their comfort zone or are looking for an extra challenge. If the student agrees that the current lesson is too easy or too hard for them while you are in the virtual classroom:
- On the right control panel, select the ‘Library’ tab
- Use the drop-downs to select a new lesson and/or course
- Click ‘Update Lesson’ to switch the lesson that appears in the classroom. You should see the changes immediately
- Your student will also automatically see the new lesson within seconds, although there may be a slight delay
