Sorry to hear you've been running into this issue-- we understand how frustrating it can be! The good news is, it's almost always a simple fix!
This issue happens when you have a dynamic IP address. A dynamic IP address means the address of your computer’s connection is changing regularly. Every time it changes, Cambly thinks you are signing in from a new location and wants to test that the new location has a reliable connection.
To solve this issue you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ask them to change your connection from a dynamic IP to a static IP address.
Making this change solves 95% of cases, but if it doesn't work for you, please review the rest of this article.
- In rare cases, some tutors have reported not being able to have a Static IP address. Some tutors in this situation have had success using ExpressVPN with a static IP address. Although this VPN isn’t our official recommendation (VPNs themselves can cause connection issues and it's always better to solve the issue at source) you could get more information about this by asking tutors who have had success using this method in Cambly Corner and Tech Corner (Cambly tutors' Facebook groups).
- In very rare cases, some tutors’ connections are static, but they have special software on their computers and/or home networks causing a dynamic IP address. If you think this may be the situation in your case, perhaps try disabling all firewalls, VPNs, anti-viruses, ad-blockers, browser extensions, etc. that may be causing the issue. Please contact an IT specialist first if you’re worried about the security of your computer and/or home network!
- Again, it’s rare, but it’s also possible you’re being asked to complete the Warm-up Screen regularly if your internet is suffering from severely fluctuating speeds and/or disconnections. If this were the case, you’d probably be experiencing many other connection issues too. If that is happening to you, please click here for tips and tricks on how to improve your connection.
We hope this helps you solve your issue!
Please note: Many dynamic IP addresses only change once or twice a day and that isn’t an issue at all! Dynamic IP addresses are only an issue when the changes take place so frequently that your tutoring experience is negatively affected.
