Due to recent regulatory developments, we will no longer support tutoring from Massachusetts and New Jersey, in addition to our existing restriction in California.
These new restrictions will be in place as of the following dates:
Massachusetts: effective March 11, 2024
New Jersey: effective April 11, 2024
Our contracts with tutors who indicate that they live in a restricted state will be terminated on that date.
We wanted to give adequate time to say goodbye to your students by providing advance notice to you, and to the extent that this decision constitutes a covered action for purposes of the federal WARN Act and/or the applicable state WARN Acts, the notice sent to tutors via email and in their tutor accounts on January 9th, 2024 is intended to fulfill the notice requirements under those laws.
Additionally, all tutors will no longer be able to log in and/or access their Cambly tutor account from restricted locations. These locations include California, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. These new sign-in restrictions will be in place as of the following dates:
California: effective March 11, 2024
Massachusetts: effective March 11, 2024
New Jersey: effective April 11, 2024
In response to this update, we've included this list of questions and answers to address any concerns you may have:
How do I know what location Cambly has as my current residence?
I don't live in any one place, how should I answer where I live?
Please list your primary residence, as best as you can identify it. Just know that you can’t tutor from the jurisdictions we don’t support, including California, Massachusetts and New Jersey.
Can I start tutoring again if I move out of an unsupported jurisdiction?
Yes, we can reactivate your account if you move to a jurisdiction we support. If you move to a supported location after being deactivated due to an unsupported tutoring location, simply reach out to tutor support.
Why can't I tutor from an unsupported location?
The regulatory landscape is different in different jurisdictions, and in some, it is difficult to operate a student/tutor marketplace. Unfortunately, that means tutors cannot offer their services from certain locations, such as California, Massachusetts or New Jersey.
Are there other jurisdictions that Cambly may no longer support next?
We hope to allow people in as many jurisdictions as possible to tutor on Cambly, but we are constantly evaluating which jurisdictions we can support.
I am no longer going to be able to tutor on Cambly. What should I tell my students?
We understand saying goodbye can be difficult. You are welcome to share as much or as little information with your students as you are comfortable with.
If you wish to help your student(s) find a new tutor, you can create a post on the Cambly Corner or Cambly Kids Corner Facebook page and ask if other tutors would be interested in tutoring them. Please describe your student's needs, level and what they are looking for.
