Certain regions of the world are in timezones with Daylight Savings Time (DST) where the clocks change by an hour twice a year. Different timezones have DST on different dates and some have none at all. A quick Google search will show you when your (and your students') changes are, if any.
Don't worry, it's not as hard to figure out as it can first seem! Cambly's system automatically makes these changes for you on the system. Here are some things to keep in mind:
1. Timezone setting
Make sure you're in the correct Location and Timezone by checking the settings in your tutor profile, and the settings on your computer. If you make any changes, make sure you click 'save' and then log out and back in to see the changes on your schedule.
2. Preparing your schedule for your DST change
Lesson times, reservation blocks or Priority Hours you see on your schedule before your DST change will appear the same after your DST change. These scheduled times will not change.
For Example: In September, you accept a reservation for November 10th at 8:00am. The Daylight Savings Time change takes place on November 5th. After the DST change, your reservation will still appear on November 10th at 8:00am.
3. Organizing your schedule post DST change
If you want the lesson time to stay the same for you, leave it as is. If you want the lesson time to stay the same for your student, please schedule the reservation either +1 or -1 hour after the DST change.
If I want my student to have the same reservation time, how do I know whether to add or take an hour from the lesson time?
If you are entering DST (springing forward) add 1 hour to the reservation time.
If you are leaving DST (falling back) subtract 1 hour from the reservation time.
4. Preparing your schedule for a student’s DST change
If your student is changing their time but you are not, you have two options.
- You can leave the lesson time the same. This means the lesson time will be one hour different for your student.
- If you would like to keep the lesson time the same for your student, please schedule the reservation either +1 or -1 hour after the DST change.
5. Repeating Lessons
If you want the lesson time to stay the same for your student, please schedule the repeating lesson up until the date of your DST change, and then schedule a new repeat lesson +1 or -1 hour after that date. If you already have months of future repeating lessons reserved, you can cancel repeating lessons from a certain date onwards. Then, create a new repeating reservation with the new time.
